2 Band Portable HF SSB Transceiver
This transceiver was designed as a portable 2 band version of the original 160 metre mobile SSB transceiver. A 9MHz exciter used with a 5.0-5.5 MHz VFO provides simple operation on 80 and 20 metres with sideband inversion on 80 metres. The PA unit is the same as that used in the 6 band modular transceiver.
Initial attempts to keep this transceiver small resulted in severe problems of RF feedback. Initially the PA unit was located on the main chassis however; it had to be relocated on the back panel causing the height to increase by about 5/8ths of an inch. Small strips can be seen on the side of the case to allow for the expansion.

The radio was sold to a colleague and most of its operation was on CW from VP8.
