60+ years of Amateur Radio
I discovered amateur radio using the family shortwave radio when I was about 9 years old. By the age of 12, I had built my first crystal set followed by a number of one, two, and three valve radios, from a book Fun with Radio by Gilbert Davey. I then moved on to a more ambitious eight valve superhet of my own design covering 2.0 - 4.0 MHz.
I was introduced to the local radio club at 14 and passed the Radio Amateurs Exam in May 1961 at the age of 15.
I hold the US callsign KD3CL and held the French Callsign F4VRA and previously F0GHI
I am a CAA Radiotelephony Examiner for the UK Flight Radiotelephony Operator's Licence (FRTOL)
I hold a UK ATPL and have over 10,000 hours flying experience.
