Initial attempts to replace the battery with other rechargeable types have not been successful.

Finally I added a CR2032 Lithium battery in a small plastic holder glued in place. The battery is wired directly to the old battery pads.

This should last at least 5 years before needing replacement.

The only time the battery is of any use is if you record on the SD card as all files are time stamped.
